US State Senators enjoy civic dinner with Lord Mayor following clean energy visit

Lord Mayor of Hull, Cllr Christine Randall, hosted a civic dinner at the Guildhall on Thursday 16 March, where guests included State Senators and representatives from the USA.

The officials had visited Hull and the wider Humber area on a fact-finding mission to  understand more about the UK’s clean energy sector.

Delegates learnt about how this transition is taking place in the Humber region, heard  about its decarbonisation and net zero projects and how it is a world leader in offshore  wind and in clean energy technologies and innovation.

Other guests to the civic dinner included representatives from the Department for  Business and Trade, British Consulate – Chicago, Foreign, Commonwealth and  Development Office, Hull and East Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership (HEY LEP),  Hull City Council, East Riding Council and Hull & Humber Chamber of Commerce.

There was also a range of local partners and stakeholders engaged in the clean energy  sector.

James Newman OBE, chair of HEY LEP, said: “The visit from senior representatives from  the US Mid-West demonstrates that the Humber region has much to offer to the world in  terms of technology, expertise and knowledge on all sectors connected with net zero and  carbon management.

“I know our visitors were very impressed with what they heard and saw and that this will  be the start of a long-term relationship and much cooperation between our two regions.”
