Marketing Humber welcomes Equinor as Principal Partner

Global energy company Equinor has become the latest company to join Marketing Humber as a Principal Partner.

Marketing Humber, a powerful network of businesses ranging from local entrepreneurs to multinationals, is the region’s economic place marketing company responsible for the promotion of the Humber for growth and investment to a national and international audience.

Equinor, who join the network of 250+ regional business partners and stakeholders known as ‘Bondholders’, is the UK’s leading energy provider, supplying natural gas, oil and electricity, and aims to reach net zero emissions globally by 2050. Headquartered in Norway, Equinor is a leader in carbon capture and storage and hydrogen, developing the H2H Saltend low-carbon hydrogen production plant that is at the heart of the Zero Carbon Humber partnership.

H2H Saltend is located within px Group’s Saltend Chemicals Park, to the east of Hull. Saltend Chemicals Park is one of the most carbon intensive sites in the Humber which is the largest CO2 emitting industrial region in the UK. H2H Saltend could enable industries at the Chemicals Park and within the wider East Yorkshire area to reduce CO2 emissions by nearly one million tonnes annually, representing a 30% reduction in the Saltend Chemicals Park’s total current emissions.

In the Humber, Equinor is also collaborating with SSE Thermal on the potential use of the existing Aldbrough gas storage facility for hydrogen storage, and on Keadby Hydrogen power station, which would be the world’s first 100% hydrogen-fuelled power station.

Equinor led the UKRI bid for the Zero Carbon Humber partnership, which aims to make the Humber the world’s first net zero industrial region by 2040. It is also a central partner on the East Coast Cluster and Northern Endurance Partnership, which link the Humber and Teesside together with common offshore infrastructure for CO2 storage.

The company has an established relationship with Marketing Humber as sponsor of The Waterline Student Sustainability Challenge alongside SSE Thermal. The challenge gives students aged 9-18 across the Humber region the chance to make a positive impact on the environment and local and wider communities by creating inspiring solutions to harmful climate problems… while being in with the chance of winning some fantastic prizes!

Richard Royal, Head of Public Affairs and Communications for Equinor’s Humber projects, said: “We are delighted to be contributing towards Marketing Humber’s drive to promote the region, amplify opportunities and attract investment. We are also hugely supportive of the Waterline campaign initiative which raises awareness of the impact of climate change, whilst promoting practical solutions to reduce emissions and improve our environment. We look forward to playing an active role and doing what we can to support these ambitions.”

As part of the membership, Equinor colleagues in the early stages of their career will also have access to the Young Talent Network. The Young Talent Network is a platform for ambitious and passionate people early in their career. The YTN offers an opportunity to build networks, make connections, enhance impact and demonstrate a collective voice.

Diana Taylor, Managing Director at Marketing Humber said, “We are really pleased to have Equinor join us as a Principal Partner, adding their commitment and momentum to the future of our region. We’re excited to welcome the team to our network and look forward to the opportunities that this presents for all our Bondholders and our marketing activities and campaigns.”
