Invest Hull and Skills Bootcamps Hull and East Riding are gearing up to attend The Business Day at Bridlington Spa on Friday 6 June.

The Business Day offers a variety of engaging breakout sessions and inspiring keynote speakers with the chance to network with some of the region’s biggest business leaders and concludes Humber Business Week.

The council’s Invest Hull team will be launching its new Connect to Work scheme at the event.

Backed by Department for Work and Pensions funding, Connect to Work will aim to help over 1,000 people per year return to work.

The multi-year programme will help specific people who historically have struggled to gain or maintain jobs.

The ‘place, train, retain’ model will work with both employers and employees to ensure those returning to work are adequately prepared for their roles, including through initiatives such as Skills Bootcamps.

Skills Bootcamps Hull and East Riding, led by the council’s Hull Training and Adult Education, secured record breaking funding of £10 million this year from the National Skills Fund.

This government initiative is designed to close the skills gaps in the UK that have been intensified by the disruption that coronavirus caused to job sectors and businesses.

Skills Bootcamps Hull and East Riding has set the ambitious target of 3,600 people benefitting from this year’s funding.

Cllr Mike Ross, leader of the council, will be part of a breakout session on the Humber Freeport during the afternoon.

He said: “The Business Day is a fantastic event which provides the council with networking opportunities with some of the key delegates, businesses and authorities in the region.

“The council is proud to be a main sponsor once again, demonstrating two of our brilliant initiatives which offer business support, including the launching of our scheme Connect to Work.

“It really showcases the council’s commitment to ensuring economic growth for the region and I’m looking forward to sharing that at Bridlington Spa.”
