Council leader to meet Bridlington businesses at new business roadshow

Businesses in Bridlington and the surrounding area are being invited to meet Councillor Anne Handley, East Riding of Yorkshire Council Leader, at the first event in a new series of business roadshows.

The free event will take place on Monday 28 September at Bridlington Spa. Businesses can arrive from 4.30pm, with the main session running from 5pm to 6.30pm.

The roadshow will give local businesses an opportunity to hear about the council’s commitment to supporting economic growth, receive updates affecting Bridlington and the East Yorkshire coast, and speak directly to Councillor Handley about the issues and opportunities facing their businesses.

Discussions will include regeneration, the visitor economy and the opportunities arising from coastal regeneration and Pride in Place investment.

Businesses will also learn about the support available through Invest East Yorkshire’s Business Support Services, including one-to-one advice, funding guidance, workshops and events, specialist support and opportunities to connect with other businesses.

During 2025–26, Business Support Services supported 1,112 businesses across the East Riding, helped create 65 jobs and 47 new businesses, and supported businesses which went on to secure £52 million in contracts.

The Bridlington event will include a briefing from Councillor Anne Handley as well as an overview of support available to businesses, and updates on regeneration and the visitor economy.

It will provide an opportunity to ask questions and share views, as well as to network with local businesses and council representatives.

Councillor Anne Handley, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: “Businesses are at the heart of our local economy, and I want to hear directly from them about what is working well, where the challenges are, and what more we can do to support their ambitions. 

“These roadshows are an opportunity for to meet businesses in their own communities, talk about the work we are doing to support economic growth, and listen to their experiences and priorities.”

The event supports the council’s commitment in its Business Plan 2026–27 to engage directly with businesses and involve them in shaping future economic priorities.

It is the first of five business roadshows being held across the East Riding during the autumn, with further events taking place in Pocklington, Goole, Burstwick and Cottingham.

Tea, coffee and light refreshments will be provided. Places are limited and advance booking is required.
