Angel Groups Events has hailed its first Hull-based ‘Access To Finance’ event a great success, as over 50 owners and directors of local SMEs attended to find out more about the funding options available to help grow their business.
The event, which was free of charge, took place on Tuesday 28th June at Gosschalks Solicitors.
A variety of experts spoke on the day to share their knowledge on topics including R&D tax credits, invoice discounting, investment schemes, innovation grant funding, bank lending, peer-to-peer lending, angel investment and funding for capital expenditure.
As well as offering SMEs access to expert insight, the event also included a unique session where select businesses could apply for angel investment. The city has never hosted an angel investment event before, so it was a great opportunity for Humber-based, high-growth businesses to take their enterprise to the next level.
Martin Avison, MD of Financial Pulse, which manages Angel Group Events, comments:
We’re delighted with the turnout to our first Access To Finance event. The business owners and directors who attended all expressed how useful they found the talks and have gone away armed with more information about the finance options that could work for them.
The businesses who pitched for angel investment did a great job, and the investors who took part on the day were particularly impressed with the creativity and potential of Hull’s entrepreneurial community. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who attended and donated their time – I’m very much looking forward to holding more events like this in Hull in the future.
The speakers at the event included Martin Avison, Managing Director of Financial Pulse, David Catley, Relationship Manager of Lloyds Bank, Simon Lunt, Senior Partner of Gosschalks Solicitors, Bob Stones, Regional Development Manager of Together, Dan Rajkumar, Managing Director of Rebuilding Society, Lee Hayes, Regional Sales Director of Close Brothers Invoice Finance, Ian Tracey, Head of Access to Funding at KTN and David Hibbert, Partner of Smailes Goldie.
Business finance can be a real minefield, and in my experience the banks aren’t always the best option. This event really opened my eyes and has given me food for thought – I shall definitely be investigating how these different finance options could benefit my business. It was great to have so many experts on this topic in one room – I would highly recommend any business owner ready to take their business to the next level to attend one of these events.
