Contract wins with the likes of Siemens and Dong Energy has led Scanel International A/S to open its first UK office in Hull.
Scanel International A/S provides design and engineering for electrical systems, equipment, installation, commissioning and services for the marine, offshore, oil, gas and wind industries.
The firm has now opened a base at One Business Village in Hedon Road after securing contract wins with energy giants in the Humber including Siemens and Dong Energy. These wins prompted the Danish electrical firm to choose Hull for the opening of its first UK office.
The new Hull office would bring the firm closer to its existing Humber-based projects whilst putting it in prime position to win further offshore wind work. They tried out a satellite office in Billingham but have found Hull to be the perfect location for their first fixed base, due to its location being right on the Humber, at the heart of the UK’s emerging offshore wind sector.
The relocation and investment has been assisted by the Green Port Growth Programme, a £25.7m investment programme designed to capitalise on renewable opportunities and help Humber-based firms to grow. Supported by the Regional Growth Fund (RGF), the programme is administered by East Riding and Hull City Councils and offers ongoing support to help local businesses recognise and embrace renewable opportunities.
There will be plans to expand the Scanel International team once more UK contracts are secured with one employee being based in Hull initially. The offshore wind market has been established in Denmark for some time, so companies like Scanel International have expertise that can support the local supply chain and the developing UK wind industry.
Scanel International has secured contracts to work on pre-assembly sites and sees the potential to grow its business in the UK making it a great success for Hull that they have been chosen as a location for its first permanent base in the UK. It is another vote of confidence in Hull and the Humber as it continues to show ambition to be a world-class centre for renewable energy.
