New Partners boost business strength at the region’s largest law firm

Gary Taylor (L) and Adam Otley (R)

Two new Partners have been appointed at the region’s largest law firm as it strengthens its support for businesses and organisations navigating their way through commercial and public sector life.

The main headquarters of Wilkin Chapman solicitors in Grimsby welcomes Corporate & Commercial lawyer Adam Ottley as Partner, whilst in Beverley, solicitor and insolvency practitioner Gary Taylor is promoted to the same position within the Recoveries department.

Adam has worked within Corporate & Commercial since 2016, having started his career as a trainee with the firm and qualifying in 2014. The former Leeds University Law student was first introduced to Wilkin Chapman when he worked as a paralegal with the firm during his university studies. He is delighted to have risen-up the career ladder in his hometown.

“Wilkin Chapman has supported me throughout my studies and career, so it has been extremely satisfying to repay that during my time with the firm,” said Adam.

“The routes of progression within Wilkin Chapman are excellent which is why I chose to take up a training contract with the firm. Wilkin Chapman has always been very keen to support the development of its employees and does this by encouraging individuals to take on responsibility if you show ability and enthusiasm. You are not just a small cog in an extremely big wheel,” he added.

With a developing knowledge of the renewables sector, Adam and the Corporate & Commercial team are constantly responding to the changing demands of the industrial and business landscape both in Grimsby and at the sister offices in Lincoln, Louth, Horncastle and Beverley. Despite the obvious and ongoing challenges of the current pandemic business had been brisk with a number of high-value business deals successfully completed over the last 12 months, said Adam. His catalogue of work has included building relationships within both the private and public sector, including the Government’s Northern Powerhouse.

“It is good to see the progression that is being made in the area with a blend of well-established businesses and entrepreneurs who are pushing business forward in the right way,” said Adam.

In East Yorkshire Gary works across the region in his unique position as a qualified solicitor and insolvency practitioner. Following a Hull University law degree, Gary successfully completed his traineeship in the region before moving to Wilkin Chapman eight years ago to join the Recoveries team.

Authorised to also act as an insolvency practitioner by the Insolvency Practitioners Association, Gary is able to offer clients a ‘one-stop-shop’ approach to their recovery and insolvency issues, with additional support from the wider firm network. Wilkin Chapman acts for more than 100 UK Local Authorities, many of whom support the appointment of Gary as their insolvency practitioner of choice.

Gary explained this sector was an ever-expanding area for Wilkin Chapman, a firm that was keen to progress and encourage innovation and self-development.

“What we have here is a unique offer, one that is extremely hard to find elsewhere and is a result of Wilkin Chapman’s willingness to look at ways we can best serve clients, perhaps in a different way. That ethos is what attracted me to the firm, and I am delighted that my progression to Partner enables me to further support that growth,” said Gary.

Broadening the depth and strength of Wilkin Chapman’s East Yorkshire offer is high on Gary’s agenda as the firm looks to a growing client base in all areas of commercial and private law.

“With a number of key appointments over the last two or so years, there is certainly real optimism for the future,” he added.
