‘Promote and prosper’ were the words on everyone’s lips last week, at The Promotion Company’s exhibition at the University of Hull Business School.
A seminar as part of the event included guest speakers from MKM Building Supplies, Airco and the University who talked about their perception of doing business in Hull.
The exhibition included the Industry’s top promotional product and clothing suppliers, with thousands of different items to demonstrate the creative opportunities in marketing campaigns. Guests of The Promotion Company heard about the individual case studies of successful blue chip companies, that have carefully chosen branded items and clothing to promote their organisations.
Angela Oldroyd, FEO member and Co-owner of the Promotion Company said:
This is the third year we have run this event. We always focus on how great Hull is because this City has a lot to shout about and as a business community we need to embrace the opportunities that are upon us.
This year, David Kilburn from MKM Building Supplies shared his experience of starting-up and developing his company. He delighted the room with his story of redundancy at 50, being the best thing that ever happened to him and then went on to thank Hull and the local community for helping him build up a business which has revenues of over £250m. He is now celebrating 21 years success with the Rod Stewart event in June, what an inspiration.
David Kilburn said:
We have a once in a generation opportunity to lift the City and its economy. Some great things are happening such as The UK City Of Culture, the Siemens factory and all-being-well, Hull City’s exciting journey back to the Premier League. All of which make for the perfect platform for our future economic growth.
Dr David Richards, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Hull said ‘Hull’s cup is over-flowing’. He talked about the investment and major developments that are happening on campus in preparation for 2017 and the forthcoming opportunities from the Siemens investment.
Nigel Nichols, Business Development Officer from flourishing business Airco, demonstrated the success of a local firm that is now UK wide and how they recognise the need to develop a team from within, with an extremely strong Apprenticeship scheme.
There was a real buzz in the room and I am delighted that feedback from the event has been very positive from both guests and suppliers. It reminds people how great Hull is and the immense opportunities we have. It is now up to us, the business community to take action.
