A Melton-based training company is the first in the country to offer a prestigious course in procurement and supply.

Encompass Development, part of the Encompass Group, is offering Advanced Apprenticeships in Procurement, as well as higher level CIPS accredited qualifications.

The Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) is the leading professional body in the field, and is internationally recognised.

Lucus Elliot, managing director of Encompass, said:

Procurement and supply is a vital part of any business and we are very excited to be the first in the country to offer the advanced apprenticeships. We are very proud to offer training to a level accredited by the prestigious Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply.

When you look at it, procurement is actually a very exciting field. Procurement and supply management is buying the goods and services that enable an organisation to operate. You may be responsible for sourcing raw materials from suppliers worldwide and bringing them into the organisation to enable the production of goods for customers. Your role could involve the procurement of marketing, advertising or IT related services.

A company can spend more than two thirds of its revenue on buying goods and services, so even a modest reduction in purchasing costs can have a significant effect on profit.

The apprenticeships, along with the higher level CIPS courses, offer a clear path for businesses to grow their own procurement managers of the future. These skills are relevant to so many businesses locally and that relevance will only increase.

We really believe in these courses so, working with HCUK Training (part of the Hull College Group), we have secured full funding from the Department of Business Innovation and Skills for the apprenticeships – so this course is delivered without any cost to the companies. We are the first training centre in the UK to offer the CIPS advanced apprenticeships fully funded.

Esther Redman, network manager for CIPS, said:

We are delighted that the advanced apprenticeship is now available. Encompass, as with all CIPS approved training centres, had to meet strict criteria to ensure the correct procedures and resources were in place to support learners and deliver effective training.

Every organisation relies on buying things to run their business and as buyer you’re in an extremely powerful position. But because buyers often operate behind the scenes, many people aren’t aware of procurement and supply as a career choice, which is why the advanced apprenticeship is so important.

Top buyers are in huge demand around the world and can achieve extremely high positions within companies.

Encompass Group began five years ago and now employs a number of industry experienced individuals and has an annual turnover of £1m. As well as training, its other divisions offer bid writing and Procurement consultancy.
