LEADING digital printer and brand management specialist Springfield Solutions has launched a new packaging mock-up service in response to customer demand.
Mock>it enables Springfield to create short runs of prototype packaging to help companies develop totally new and innovative packaging types, carry out market research and create shelf displays or sales samples.
The company has invested more than £200,000 in a cutting table, laminating unit and printer to launch the service which complements its leading digital print and brand management divisions.
The move is enabling Springfield Solutions to provide a 360 degree package-production service from initial concepts through development, market research, production and post-production management of the client’s brand across global markets and different packaging substrates.
Matt Dass, joint managing director and head of innovation at Springfield, said mock>it enabled the company to print as little as one or up to hundreds of samples which are cut out, glued together and laminated to create retail-quality prototype packages.

When developing new packaging, whether that is an improvement on an existing type or creating a totally new solution from scratch, companies need small production runs of their design concepts to use in market research and put in front of focus groups. It is this that informs the bigger decision about how packaging should look and function.
A number of our customers have enquired about this service which suggested we had a small but significant gap in the offering we provide, so we decided to fill it. Mock>it enables our clients to experiment with their packaging and with our help, find the best solution for each of their products.
As part of the service, Springfield Solutions’ IOM3-accreditated packaging and supply chain team will work with client companies to carry out a packaging and process evaluation.
The evaluation can help companies identify any changes needed to ensure their packaging achieves global sustainability responsibilities and reduce supply chain costs.
